WOW ... BBC!

Basically we watched a big video about radio 1.
It told us a lot about the station and how it is run, what people do and how it originated

First the life and times of radio one.

On an average day 42 million listeners will tune it to listen to radio at some point.

In 1920 BBC 1 dominated the radio
But in the 60’s they ignored now music which left a large hole for competitors to fill.

These holes were filled by pirates
Transmitting radio from 3 miles off the coast from pirate ships.

One of the most famous being radio Caroline
This was a major pirate station in 1964 and was fronted by Tony Blackburn

They played pop music and music that BBC and other major radio station would not

In 1967 they banned pirate broadcasts

And the BBC decided to make a now station that would play music for the new audience.

This new station was fronted by some of the top pirates.

In the next 40 years the stations audience grew dramatically.

Now there are over 300 radio stations.

At BBC radio 1 most of the workers there are actually within the target audience

With the station being situated in London the look for presenters with regional accents to appeal to as large an audience they can

Also music is picked to cover different musical trends

There are many presenters such as
Chris Moyles
Jo Whiley
Colin & Edith.

During the day mostly mainstream music is played but later on more experimental music is played
They have a chat room to give instant feed back and you can text them on 81119
To decided on music the have a lot to take into account like how good the music is
How high in the charts it is
If it goes with other music
The artists profile

I really dont know if this radio station is all that good
I am more of a cd and internet music kind of guy.
I like being able to choose basicaly
